MCI invites State House rep. Dan Flynn to Philippines

Minority Care International (MCI) invited USA Texas House District 2 State Representative Dan Flynn as the speaker on the topic, "Prospects and Opportunities of the Banking Industry in Southeast Asia: Risks and Policy Changes" International forum. The forum recently concluded on April 28, 2010 at the DPT Auditorium, UM Matina Campus, Davao City, in partnership with the University of Mindanao (UM). Other speakers in attendance were Reactors from Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, Acting deputy Director Erlinda C. Mahor and from the Davao City Bankers Association President Arleen SJ. Aportadera.

The UM President warmly welcomed the participants who were administrators, managers and examiners of the different banks under the Davao City Bankers Association, Inc., and of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas Region XI. There were also from the Directors and Finance officers of the Colleges and Universities in Davao City and the Officials, Deans, and students of the University of Mindanao with the scholars of the Minority Care International.

Despite the power outage, the forum pushed through with the input of the speaker that focused on the Banking Industry system in the USA particularly in Texas. He stated that a Cooperative banking system dominates USA for it aims to cater to small business/capital ventures and the system is regulated by the policies of the state. When the Reactor form Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, Deputy Director took her time, she presented the Philippine Banking system is still stable. On the other hand, Manager Arleen SJ. Aportadera, who focused her points on Davao City Bankers Association, stated that, if USA Texas has Cooperative type of banking system. Philippines also have Cooperative banks that cater to small businesses and the Bangko Sentral becomes the accreditor and the monitoring government agency that regulates all banks in the Philippines.

Participants got their chance to inquire and clarified during the open forum facilitated by Dir. Reynaldo Castro and with no hesitation, Hon. Dan Flynn and the Reactors gave their answers and views based on the bank policies, regulations and even in practice.

The forum ended with a cultural presentation of the UM Makabayan Dance Artists Ensemble that brought back the atmosphere from a heavy discussions on banking and economy matters to friendliness and association.
