AI is here to stay, and its impact on the field of education will grow as AI continues to develop. The case of students using AI to cheat has raised concerns among the educator around the globe. Exploring the effects of AI on education, both the advantages and disadvantages of AI in education, helps administrators create policies that enhance students' learning while minimizing potential drawbacks. Professor Espino spoke on the topic of the impact of Artificial intelligence (AI) and the future of teaching and learning.  Following the introduction of the Chat GPT in 2024, the world opened itself to a new chapter of the AI revolution. With the ability to process commands across the forms of text, voice, and vision: the possibility seemed endless for this latest introduction to the AI scene. Professor Espino from the University of Mindanao shed light on the impact AI has on higher education and the potential it holds. Not engaging in AI is not an option, stressed Professor Espino, as he discussed the prospects of higher education instructors learning about and learning with AI. Artificial intelligence AI systems offer effective support for online learning and teaching, including personalizing learning for students, automating instructors’ routine tasks, and powering adaptive assessments. However, while the opportunities for AI are promising, the impact of AI systems on the culture, norms, and expectations related to interactions between students and instructors, are still elusive. The full impact of AI in education remains unclear at this juncture, but as Professor agreed, things are changing, and now is the time to get it right.

Bio of Linsey C. Espino, MPA-GA

Professor Espino obtained his Bachelor's Degree in Political Science from the University of Mindanao in Davao City and a Bachelor of Science in Public Administration from SOCOTECH. He completed his Master's Degree in Public Administration, majoring in Government Administration at Ateneo de Davao University, and is completing his Doctor in Public Administration at the University of Mindanao. His experience includes working in the Local Government Unit as Executive Assistant to the Mayor and Legislative Chief of Staff in the Philippine Congress before working in the academe. Professor Lindsey C. Espino also serves as Program Head of the Political Science Discipline at the University of Mindanao from 2008-2013. Concurrently, he is an Associate Professor at the University and teaches major subjects in Political Science, including Social Sciences. He is a member of the Philippine Political Science Association (PPSA), Philippine National Historical Society, Inc.
